Pasta Honeymoon

Greetings from Barbados!

Apologies for my absence, I am now married and currently on my honeymoon. The food is good but if you’re vegetarian here, you better like pasta. It might just be the hotel we are staying in but the only main vegetarian option each night appears to be pasta based. There is a risotto as well but it’s very dry and not very appealing. Plus I’m not quite sure if the vegetarian options are actually vegetarian, there was a dubious pasta salad incident earlier on in the week which involved a shrimp (I realised in time, luckily) and things are not clearly labeled and there isn’t really anyone to ask.

The nicest thing i’ve eaten so far was the Yam Pie at the Mount Gay bottling plant. I’ve been having fantasies about it since (that, and plates of brocolli) also the macoroni pie (pasta again zzz) that is being heaped upon my plate when I tell people I’m vegetarian is very good. Just slightly sick of carbs carbs carbs…

I’m told the fish is very nice, James says the swordfish he had for dinner last night was excellent. I had, no surprises here, lasagna.

The large quantity of freely available rum punch is saving my sanity somewhat. Back home on Monday. It will be strange to get back to cooking for myself again. I will be avoiding pasta for at least a month…

  1. I had a dubious vegetarian dish in Spain last month. Ordered something that sounded vegetarian, was assured it was vegetarian, and it came out with sardines all over it. I ended up eating mostly salads for the rest of the trip. Congrats on the wedding, by the way!

      Sounds familiar! Thanks 🙂

  2. I’ve recently moved to the US and one of our local restaurants has a “Vegan Menu” which includes a chicken dish, but it has vegan cheese in it so I guess that’s okay 🙂 They just don’t quite get it over here !

Wow, I’m not quite sure where to begin with that one 🙂
